Designing for three generations
A family home has to work for a toddler, a teenager and a grandparent at once. That means step-free thresholds, sightlines from the kitchen to the play area, and bedrooms that can change purpose over a decade without renovation.
We plan circulation before we plan rooms. Corridors get daylight, entrances get a place to drop bags, and every balcony is deep enough to hold a table rather than just a chair.
The details that last
Sound insulation between floors, thermostatic valves in bathrooms, and lever handles throughout. None of these photograph well. All of them are what residents mention when we ask what they would keep.
